Right on the doorstep of season No. 54, the NSAAA banner has been lowered to half
mast with the passing of yet another old veteran, Bob Hagedorn, who died on March 24, 2013 up in
Atascadero at the tender age of 66.
![]() Bob was brought around by Dave in 1980 after they met thru the North Hollywood Little League. He turned out to be a pretty good ballplayer too, being pegged at both a Blue and Orange chip during his 9 year career that ran til July 20, 1988.

But his biggest claim to NSAA fame was probably his invention of the Old-Young game. He suggested it to the Commish at the end of the 1984 season to replace the tired out Hi-Lo game that we'd been
playing for years. We ended up playing a 3-game series that year where the rubber match played at Toll was thought by many to be the best NSAA game ever. It ended in 15 innings with the Youngs prevailing on
the 3 batters tiebreaker. Bob also shot a full length video of that game which, as far as I know, was only shown once at that year's Awards Banquet. Hopefully, it still exists somewhere, and it can be saved for posterity (and maybe YouTube). “Hag” made two Del Mar junkets (1983 and 84) where he could be found during the day on the golf course and at night bundled in a sleeping bag on Dave and TimA's floor. He also did 4 Awards Banquets. And one of them in 1983 (scheduled for Dave P's house) was postponed for a week so Bob could go
on his honeymoon to Hawaii-- with his "Best Man" Dave tagging along as the 3rd wheel. Yes, Bob was certainly an innovator--- and will be missed by all who knew him.
