JOHNNY COX CHECKS IN

Imagine the surprise up at the Commissioner’s office in NorCal when an email came in from the venerable Johnny Cox last July 20th. I had not seen nor heard from the boy since the ballgames on July 9th, 2003 on the Wilson field. That’s a twenty year gap. Here’s what he had to say:

Hey Commish, thanks for all you did in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Just want to say thanks for keeping the motley crew together for such a long time. I miss all the old pals. Just want too say thank you. John Cox.

Coxie ended up #26 on the All-Time list while making the Majors 5 times in his 24 year career. He was Orange Chip of the Year in 1986 and won MVP in both 1987 and 1994. All this earned him a spot on the NSAA All-Time Team, a rare honor for sure.

The first known NSAA photo of JC was taken at the 1987 Award Banquet held at Billy D’s place. In the left hand is the MVP trophy but in the right is an unknown piece of hardware. If anyone can ID it, let me know.
